Washington-Plymouth Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

On January 27, 1979, a group of inactive sorors met at the home of Soror
Mildred Randolph. The group consisted of sorors from Beaufort, Bertie,
Martin and Washington counties. From that meeting, an interest group called
Deltas in Need of Charter (DINC) was formed. They held meetings each
month to reacquaint sorors with Deltas rich history, rituals, songs, constitution
and by-laws.  In an effort to raise funds to assist with charter fees, sorors initiated the collection of dues and conducted various fundraising activities. The Greenville Alumnae Chapter also assisted with funding needed to establish the charter.

The notification of chapter acceptance was received on June 8, 1980. The
Washington-Plymouth Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
was chartered on June 29, 1980. To celebrate, a ceremony followed by a
banquet took place at the Lemon Tree Inn with Regional Director Norma
Sermons officiating. The Greenville Alumnae Chapter presented the newly
established chapter with a gavel as a gift.
Today, the Washington-Plymouth Alumnae Chapter continues to serve
communities within Beaufort, Martin and Washington counties. Some of our
activities include providing scholarships to local seniors, charitable support
and donations, Delta Academy, Delta GEMS, voter registration, political
awareness, education initiatives, health awareness programs and various
public service projects. The presence of Delta is felt in every facet of the
community.
